If Twitter and Popularity are to be the Weathervane, then Kim Kardashian will be president.

February 2, 2012 in 2012 Elections

Yesterday I reported on The Twitter popularity of Candidates. Today I decided to investigate other candidates and pundits and their corresponding twitter popularity

This is what I found:

President Obama  https://twitter.com/#!/barackobama is the champion of the politicians with over 12 million followers:  12, 276, 394

But perhaps to put the president’s 12, 276, 394 into perspective.  We might note that Kim Kardashian beats him by almost 700,000 followers.  Ms. Kardashian has 12, 928,641 twitter followers.  http://twitter.com/kimkardashian.  Does that mean that she should be our next president?

Mitt Romney https://twitter.com/#!/mittromney has 313, 472 followers (half as many as Palin and more than four times less than Gingrich.

Speaker Boehner http://twitter.com/speakerboehner has 272,846 followers.

It’s interesting to see who these people follow as well.  While most of them follow several hundred people, there are some such as Eric Cantor, who only follow 20 people—what does that say about them?

Proclaim the Queen!

Who was the biggest liar last night? Gingrich or Romney?

    January 27, 2012 in 2012 Elections

Romney wins by a landslide for having told the most whoppers.  In other words, Romney is the biggest liar of them all by virtue of sheer volume.

    - Romney lied about not voting for a Democrat if there was a Republican on the ballot — He voted for Paul Tsongas in a Democratic primary in 1992 in the same election where President George H.W. Bush faced Pat Buchanan. [SOURCE WIKI]

    - He lied about telling us that he never said  his Massachusetts health care plan was a model for the nation — the truth is that he’s often said it was.

    - Romney claims that his great personal wealth is an asset to help America but he is not investing in America.  He has millions in offshore tax havens.  Such tax havens cost American taxpayers about $100 billion a year. [Source]

    - Romney lied about saying that he would not kick all the illegal immigrants out of the country. He has more than once, even during this debate season, said that if he were elected that he not only would he kick them out, he would veto the Dream Act.

    - Romney once again falsely accused Obama of saying “nothing” about the Palestinians launching rockets into Israel during a 2009 speech to the United Nations. [Here is a quote from Obama's 2009 address to the United Nations:  "We must remember that the greatest price of this conflict is not paid by us. It’s not paid by politicians. It’s paid by the Israeli girl in Sderot who closes her eyes in fear that a rocket will take her life in the middle of the night. It’s paid for by the Palestinian boy in Gaza who has no clean water and no country to call his own."]

    - Romney does not give a rat’s ass about the Latinos.  He even tried to make it sound like his father was a Mexican last night LOL.  Romney’s father was born in Chihuahua Mexico in 1907, the son of  USA Mormon missionaries.

Note: In my opinion, no candidate can say out of one side of his mouth that he is for the Latino community and then out of the other side of his mouth say that he would veto the Dream Act if he were president.  Under the Dream Act,  young undocumented immigrants who have lived most of their lives in the United States and graduate from U.S. high schools would be eligible for a conditional six-year “path to citizenship” if they earn a college degree or serve two years in the military.  Romney has said that he would veto this bill .

Another important point that the latinos of Florida especially should understand is that people migrate to other countries illegally under duress and in a matter of life and death for one of three main reasons:  1) war and/or the threat of a dictator such as Castro; 2) Unfair trade agreements that push people off their land such as NAFTA an unfair trade agreement that decimated the mexican corn farmers who could not compete with the heavily subsidized US agribusinesses such as ADM and Cargill; 3) Crop failure because of climate change.  People should not be castigated for trying to survive.

Thus, when it comes to volume, Romney wins.  However, if the lie(s) are to be measured by magnitude + the depth of psychopathic calculation and intent to deliberately deceive victims,  then Gingrich may hold the record for his lie that he balanced the budget

Yes Gingrich, with the assistance of a Republican Congress and Bill Clinton did balance the budget–on the backs of the working people of the USA.  They “balanced” the budget by dipping into Social Security funds.  [More details of that here.]

Of course, even Ron Paul left off the fact that while the majority of the working class pay Social Security tax on 100% of their income, the investor class don’t pay a dime of Social Security tax on amounts above $106,000 that they earn.

    ________________________________________________

Speaking of Mitt’s Pseudo Latino Father, Newt gets a black mark for missed opportunity last night. Newt Gingrich is tying the wrong person to Saul Alinsky in his bizarre attacks on Barack Obama. BuzzFeed found old pictures of George Romney meeting with Saul Alinsky to discuss the grievances of the urban black poor.  [By the way, Saul Alinsky’s “crime” is helping the poor to organized their communities. Saul Alinsky has been compared to Thomas Paine as being “one of the great American leaders of the nonsocialist left.”   MORE

    Proclaim the Queen!

Newt Gingrich and the Conservative Talk Hosts are jumping on a Racist Bandwagon

      January 24, 2012 in 2012 Elections, Poverty

An IlWQ Pie Hole Award for Newt Gingrich

Shades of racist Ronald Reagan’s lies about his fake Black Welfare Queen!

The Conservatives and all Americans who give a damn about human decency need to be reminded that Ronald Reagan’s Black Welfare Queen was no more real than the Weapons of Mass Destruction in Iraq were real–both are just big whoppers brought to us by conservatives ideologues that ended up harming millions of people–most of them women and children.  Newt Gingrich and all the conservative talk show hosts who are jumping on the bandwagon of calling President Obama the Food stamp president are no better than racist thugs who are obviously more interested in proving their racist theories and stirring up racist hatred among the ignorant than they care about telling the truth.  Anything goes to deflect the heat from their own greedy asses.

      ______________________________________________

      HERE IS THE TRUTH

      1.  Obama is NOT the Food Stamp President. George Bush is.

FACT:  During Bush’s Presidency 14.7 million NEW people were put on Food Stamps.   During President Obama’s presidency 14.2 million people are on food stamps and not all of them are new. To listen to Newt Gingrich you would think that Obama’s plan is to put poor people on food stamps.  That’s a lie–a damned lie.
[WXIA 11 Alive News in Atlanta has checked the facts: "The highest in history so far is President George W. Bush. The number of food stamp recipients grew to nearly 14.7 million while he was in office." That's 500,000 higher than the peak under President Obama.]

      2. Even though the Depression/Recession has proportionally affected a larger portion of the Black population than the White population, more white people are on Food Stamps than Black People.  [Note: According to CNN Money, Black unemployment soared to 16.7% in August of 2011--about twice the rate of the national average.]

But when asked what he would do about the food stamp issue, Republican presidential candidate Newt Gingrich said yesterday he is willing to go before the NAACP and urge blacks to demand paychecks instead of food stamps. He didn’t say he would go before the white people–even though it is the majority of them who are on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)–not black people.

But here are some more even sadder facts:  47% of all Americans on food stamps are children. But I guess coming from the leader of a party who took away hot lunch programs for children during Reagan’s presidency we shouldn’t expect any empathy from a bunch who don’t give a damn if children go hungry.

      3. On the topic of telling poor people to “demand paychecks”, here is yet another salient fact that is ignored by Gingrich and his gang:

Most of the people on SNAP do work.  They are members of the working poor

(And the program is not called “food stamps” any more.  The program is officially called the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program [SNAP].)

Most of the people on SNAP do work–However, they are not paid a living wage.  Getting a paycheck is not enough.  You must earn a paycheck that is sufficient to put a roof over one’s head and feed ones family.  But this is NOT going to happen as long as the investor class are allowed to take more than their fair share from the paychecks of the 77%–those of us who live from paycheck to paycheck.

Two parts that Gingrich and the conservative talk show hosts over look:

      1.  First there have to be jobs.
      2.  Second, these jobs must pay a living wage.

      _______________________________________________________

These conservatives love to bash European nations. but the truth is that if you work in Europe you are paid enough money to support yourself and your family.  This is not true in the USA.  Just ask all the part-time workers–another corporate scheme to keep labor costs down.  Don’t hire full time workers.  Then you don’t have to pay them benefits and a living wage–more money for the investor class like Gingrich, Romney, the conservative talk show hosts and the majority of the U.S. Congress.

      _____________________________________________

A Job in the USA is no Guarantee of a Living Wage

Just because you work in the USA, it is no guarantee that you can earn enough money to support yourself, much less a family.  There is a minor detail called “living wages.”

Conservatives like Romney and Gingrich love to bash European nations for their “socialism.”  However, not only are poverty rates lower in all western European countries  than in the USA, they all have fewer working poor than we do.

      Proclaim the Queen!

It was a knockout for Gingrich in SC. The party leadership can’t cover for Romney on this one.

        January 22, 2012 in 2012 Elections

Yep.  No doubt about it. Ole Gingrich won last night and he will make a formidable opponent for Obama.  Unlike Romney, who no doubt is intelligent and viscous, Gingrich is all that and more.  Gingrich is clever, thinks on his feet and likely writes most of his own stuff. Unlike Romney, nothing is lost in translation because Gingrich’s words are connected to the horse’s mouth.  There little  feedback time delay between what he thinks and what he says. Also, unlike President Obama, Gingrich has a knack for knowing the hot buttons of Americans and is willing to push them all.  President Obama seems to be totally out of touch with Main Street America.  It’s not that Gingrich represents us any more than Obama, but Gingrich seems to at least be aware of what makes us tick and what really ticks us off.  Gingrich goes for the knockout while President Obama plays the ropa dopa game.  That game may have worked with McCain and Romney, but it won’t work with Gingrich because Gingrich is no gentleman, and he is not above sucker punching.

Already this morning I read where Ginrich is comparing Obama to Jimmy Carter.  Now that’s a heck of a metaphor since in the minds of most Americans Jimmy Carter, while intelligent and a kind person, is viewed by many Americans as having been a weak and ineffectual one-term President.

But let us not forget that even Rick Santorum is still a viable candidate.  It’s all about electoral votes, folks.  The candidate with the most wins.

At least at this  point in the campaign:  Even Santorum is still in the race.  It’s all about electoral votes.  Gingrich, who the profane argue has outdone Jesus Christ by arising from the dead three times, holds the lead  having gone from zero to  21 electoral votes last night;  Romney follows on his heels with 18; and Santorum follows even closer on Romney’s heels with 16 electoral votes.

Ron Paul? Not so much.  Paul has garnered only 11 electoral votes. Think of this as a marathon that has just begun. Gingrich is already at the 21 mile marker and Paul is back at the 11 mile marker.

The only reason Paul should be in this race at all is to obtain national exposure that he could never get as a third party candidate.  But if Ron Paul doesn’t run as a third party candidate at the end of this dog and pony show, he should have once and for all proved himself for what he really is–just another Wall Street shill like the rest of them.

The Ironies of the Gingrich Win

*See note below for photo credit.

Irony #1:  To Win, Gingrich may have to Pass off Moderate Republicans as Socialists.

The only way that Gingrich may able to garner enough votes is to show that Obama is a Wall Street shill just like he showed the majority of the American people what a private equity company like Bain Corporation really does.  In order to do that, he will alienate much of the old guard from the Republican Party.  Simply calling Obama a “socialist” won’t work this time around.  Thanks in part to Gingrich’s recent pulling back of the curtain,  and three years of the progressive bloggers along with only four months of OCCUPY, the American people much more about how Wall Street works than they ever have in the history of our nation.  Many of them are beginning to see that Obama and the leadership of the Democratic Party are  not that different from the middle of the road Republicans.  Many Americans are letting go the myth of the two-party system and its 4 year cycles of presidential sideshows.

Gingrich’s challenge will be to pass off moderate Republicans as socialists because if Obama is a “leftist socialist”, then moderate Republicans are too.  This, I don’t think that even Gingrich can accomplish.

It is ridiculous that these candidates stand up and refer to Obamacare as socialism when in fact it would be more accurate to call it “WallStreet Investor Care”–a right-leaning program since it forces 50 million Americans to buy services from Wall Street corporations and the only ones who really benefit from it are the ones who work for a corporation.

Irony #2: A 15 year Anniversary–Gingrich won his first Primary and captured the lead in electoral votes on January 21, 2012.  On that same day and month in 1997 Gingrich’s Congressional colleagues voted 395-28 to penalize him $300,000 for misconduct.  See this article from Washington Post.

Note: Eighty-four ethics charges were filed against Gingrich during his term as speaker. After extensive investigation and negotiation by the House Ethics Committee, Gingrich was penalized $300,000 by a 395–28 House vote. It was the first time in history a speaker was disciplined for ethical wrongdoing.

Gingrich better hope that he wins SC with a knockout today

          January 21, 2012 in 2012 Elections

If it is not:  ”.  .  . And the Winner by a Knockout is Gingrich!”

          it will be:

          Romney wins by 8 votes!

then 10 days later after the Florida primary :

Oops looks like Gingrich won South Carolina by 34 votes.

Because if the votes are close, the Republican leadership who have anointed Romney in their “quiet” rooms will likely pull the same trick on Gingrich that they pulled on Santorum in Iowa and declare Romney the winner in order to manage impressions.

They knew within 24 hours after the polls close in Iowa that Santorum had won.

It is nothing but nonsense to think otherwise.  Those who think that it took over a week to count 121,503  votes . . . are more susceptible to BS than most Americans.

They wanted to manage impressions for Romney in New Hampshire.  They wanted him to look like a winner.

However, such behavior makes Romney even more unpopular with the voters than he already is.  No one likes a guy born with a gold spoon in his mouth getting preferential treatment in a contest to nominate a president.

          Proclaim the Queen!

Romney is in for a crippling fall from grace in South Carolina

            January 20, 2012 in 2012 Elections

And what makes anyone think that he will fare any better in Florida than he did in 2008?

            McCain 36%; Romney 31%; Giuliani 14.68%

            This year it will be:

            Gingrich 37%;  Romney 30%;  Paul 15%

And this report from Rasmussen came out BEFORE Gingrich won the last Republican SC debate in the first five minutes.

Former House Speaker Newt Gingrich has now surged ahead of Mitt Romney in the final Rasmussen Reports survey of the South Carolina Republican Primary race with the vote just two days away.

The latest telephone survey of Likely GOP Primary Voters in the state finds Gingrich with 33% support to Romney’s 31%.

Well Dressed gunman fires on Houston Occupiers

              November 22, 2011 in Occupy

Violence broke out at Occupy Houston’s Tranquility Park site Monday evening. A gunman armed with a .40-caliber rifle shot approximately 15 rounds into the air and into the park’s fountains before being shot twice by Houston Police officers patrolling the area. He was taken into custody.

Witnesses say the gunman — a twentysomething male in a dark suit with a white shirt — entered the park through a stairwell at Bagby and Rusk. Walking towards the Occupy Houston site, the man fired several rounds towards the sky and started heading towards the fountains.

The gunman walked onto the metal catwalk that crosses the park fountains when an officer on a bike fired several shots, two of which hit the gunman below the waist. There was some speculation among Occupy Houston protestors that Houston Police Department officers were using rubber bullets, but the HPD says its officers fired real ammunition. The HPD also says the shooter was a 21-year-old with a Houston address but provided no further details on his identity.

“The man pointed his gun at a young lady [from the catwalk], she’s a regular occupier, but he didn’t fire at her,” said protestor Benjamin Franklin Rendon, who says that another occupier was trying to calm the gunman at the time as well.

              ILWQ COMMENTS

Can hardly wait for all the twisted logic that will come out of this event.  No doubt it will be used as another excuse given by the 1% for closing another Occupy Wall Street site.

Let’s see:  A crazed gunman threatens occupiers with a gun and it is somehow the victims and not the perpetrator’s fault–a lot like the argument given by some of these same people to excuse the behavior of a rapist: “She was asking for it.  If she hadn’t been dressed that way . . .”

That’s what those in power often do:  they make their victims out as perpetrators who “had it coming.”  For example, two of the Republican Presidential candidates (Cain and Gingrich) have called Occupiers “dirty and lazy” .  Of course this is not true as most of the Occupiers do have jobs and are likely cleaner than either Cain or Gingrich–both in their hearts as well as their bodies.

Lame duck week–from Christmas to New Year’s Day–a time of quiet reflection and regrouping for the new year.

December 28, 2010 in Class War, Uncategorized

The week in between Christmas and New Year’s Day is an interesting time.  Most of us spend at least a part of this week remembering what we did as well as the important events of the current year.  It’s almost a national pastime.  There are lists of the biggest of this, the smallest of that, the most horrible disasters, the greatest heroic acts, etc.  It is a week in which many memories of bittersweet losses and unexpected victories rise to the surface.  It is a week when we review unfulfilled dreams and unrealized ambitions.  We come to terms with some of them and lay them to rest forever.  However, the seeds of our larger dreams and broader visions remain protected in our hearts from which they may be brought forth in the coming year and brought to fruition.

In November of this year I wrote two books:  HOW DO YOU CREATE A DEMOCRACY? and THE BEST OF TIMES OR THE WORST OF TIMES–You Decide.  The first book is a “how-to” book.  The second book explains “why.” Both of them are the seeds of my  hope for 2011. I hope that Americans will be inspired by these books to learn more about their local, state and federal government.  I hope that many ordinary Americans–non-Tea Party anarchists–will decide to run for office.  We are told by mainstream media and the millionaire elected officials in DC that it takes hundreds of thousands of dollars to run a successful campaign.  That is not true.  If you disagree, then I must ask you:  If money is what it takes, then why isn’t Peg Whitman governor of California?  She spent $150 million of her personal fortune on her campaign.  Why did Lisa Murkowski who have over $2 million in her campaign chest lose her primary to Joe Miller who had $20,000 in his campaign chest?

So one of my dreams is that more ordinary Americans will prepare themselves to run for elected office in 2012.  Our nation needs them.  Another of my dreams for 2011 is that all registered voters will register at least one other person in 2011.  And yet another of my dreams is that more Americans will read the news on the Internet from various world sources and gain a more rounded view of what is really happening in our nation and the world.

THESE ARE THE “TAKES THE CAKE” AWARDS FOR OUTRAGEOUS AND WRONG

                  JANUARY
#1 Financial Times nomination of Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs, as Person of the Year – This nomination is obscene. Many of the leaders on Wall Street should be in prison for their crimes against humanity. Lloyd Blankfein of Goldman Sachs being at the top of the list. What Goldman Sachs and Bear, AIG, Lehman, Deutsche, JPMorgan Chase and other Wall Street “too big to fail” financial institutions were able to do in commodity markets, really which reached its peak from 2005 to 2008, in what is now known as the food bubble. Their speculation and their restructuring of these commodity markets pushed 250 million new people into food insecurity and starving, and brought the world total up to over a billion people. Literally, what some of the richest people in the world – Goldman, Deutsche Bank, the traders at Merrill Lynch, and more – have caused the starvation of some of the poorest people in the world, just so they could make a fatter profit. Wall Street is the bottom of the barrel of humanity. For someone like Lloyd Blankfein to receive an award as Person of the year is nothing short of obscene.

                  FEBRUARY
#1 Once again Lloyd Blankfein, CEO of Goldman Sachs, gets the “takes the cake award”. Lloyd Blankfein pulls off the ultimate shell game: he used the taxpayer’s money to pay back the taxpayer’s money and then pocketed the almost $3 billion left over—calling it “successful business.” Mr. Blankfein was given taxpayers bailout money from A.I.G to pay off their loans to Goldman Sachs. Mr. Blankfein then took $10 billion of the $12.9 billion given to his firm by A.I.G. and “repaid” the American taxpayers. Clever, but hardly ethical. In fact there are those like me who call it robbing the taxpayers to the tune of $2.9 billion. Of course, with the “free” market, Mr. Blankfein is “free” to do what he pleases and call it business. I call it theft. Any ordinary citizen who attempted such shenanigans would be in prison.

                  MARCH
#1 Jobless Recovery - March of 2010 was my first recollection of hearing or reading that oxymoron. I wonder who dreamed it up. Jobless recovery—a perfect example of George Orwell’s Newspeak. One thing is certain; it was no one who actually lives on Main Street because if you are talking about economic recovery, there is no economic recovery without jobs in our minds. However, “recovery” implies that someone has recovered. Since people who live on Main Street cannot “recover” without a job, we can only assume that “recovery” refers to Wall Street and the rich. I guess from their point of view “jobless recovery” is not an oxymoron. They are raking in the dough again.

APRIL – [Income Tax Month for Ordinary Americans]
#1 GE, the largest war contractor in the world and the largest benefactor of USA government contracts from American taxpayers paid no income tax. Exxon Mobil with their record $45.2 billion profit paid no USA income tax.
This, combined with our leaders saying that they don’t know what they are going to do about the deficit not only takes the cake for April of 2010, it takes the cake for the entire year!

                  MAY
                  #1
Rand Paul declared that it is “un-American” for Americans to criticize business. Well that must have endeared him to Wall Street and garnered a few thousand dollars in his campaign contribution bucket. Rand Paul is a cheap imitation of his father—not at all the same level of intelligence and deep thinking. He belongs more to the erratic shallow waters where bottom feeders like Sarah Palin, Glenn Beck, and Christine O’Donnell reside.

                  JUNE
#1 Tony Blair received a prestigious medal and $100,000 from the United States, presented by Bill Clinton, for his “steadfast” efforts in “the resolution of conflicts rooted in religion around the world.”
Tony Blair has often been referred to as “Bush’s poodle.” Like Clinton, Blair has made tons of money since he retired as leader of a nation. Blair makes $250,000 for a 90 minute speech. His personal fortune is estimated at up to £60 million – the vast bulk of it earned over the three years since his retirement as Prime Minister and he owns nine properties in places as diverse as London, the Bahamas and New York.

                  AUGUST
#1 The Mosque Hoopla! Remember how outraged the Republicans, religious fanatics, and Tea Party candidates were about someone building a Muslim community center two blocks away from ground zero in Manhattan?
Fox News with its Glenn Beck and Koch Enterprises with its sponsored Tea Party Movement did all they could to fan the flames of racial prejudice. Ironic that if they really wanted to stop the encroachment of the Muslims in the USA, their best strategy would be to not watch FOX NEWS. Saudi Prince Al Waleed, the second largest shareholder in FOX NEWS, funded the mosque.

                  OCTOBER
#1 2 Green Party Candidate, Laura Wells, is arrested upon trying to enter the 2010 Gubernatorial debate in California on October 12
. All parties other than the Republicans and Democrats were barred from the debate. Ms. Wells had every right as a citizen voter to attend that debate. She was not attempting to participate. Her rights as a citizen were violated by both Democrats and Republicans. This incident was barely mentioned in mainstream corporate-sponsored media.

                  DECEMBER
#1 Newt Gingrich puts forth his 12 step plan to “crush liberals.”
Speaking of “12 steps”, Mr. Gingrich needs to get his own fat ass into a 12-step program. Might I be the among the first to suggest Sex Addicts Anonymous for Mr. Gingrich. And may I remind Gingrich and people like him that a “one-party system” is not a Democracy. It is a totalitarian society–a dictatorship. If you want to see a real picture of what the USA would look like if Mr. Gingrich’s and the conservative neo-con’s wet dreams came true, then look no further than Russia. That is what capitalism without government looks like. People and journalists who disagree with Putin are murdered.
