When is a Terrorist Not a Terrorist?

January 16, 2012 in 2012 Elections, Israel

There are some, according to Alan Hart,  who would rephrase the question of who is not a terrorist thusly:

When is a terrorist not a terrorist in the eyes of the Obama administration (not to mention all of its predecessors), the US Congress,  and the governments of the Western world?

Answer: When he or she is an Israeli Mossad agent or asset.

_________________________________________________

In the case of the assassination of Iranian scientists, Alan Hart argues that the the Mossad’s assets are almost certainly members of the Mujahedin-e Khalq Organization (MKO) also known as The Peoples’ Mujahedin of Iran, which is committed to overthrowing the regime of the ruling mullahs. Many of its activists are based in Iraqi Kurdistan where Mossad has a substantial presence. It does the training there, selects the targets in Iran and provides the bombs and other weapons, and MKO members do the actual killing.

Read Hart’s entire article in The Dissident Voice and decide for yourself.

Once again I rest my case:  It is the members of the US Congress who are the ones who control our foreign policies and all the important decisions that are made and laws that are written.

Administrations come and go while these people remain as permanent fixtures serving terms of 10, 20 and sometimes 30 years.

Until we deal with them and removed at least 44% of members of Congress, NOTHING of any significance will ever change for the majority in the USA and the world.

How long will the world allow Israel to get away with it?

Israeli air raid kills palestinians in Gaza while Tel Aviv builds more homes in Jerusalem.

An Israeli air raid in central Gaza killed at least two people and wounded others, Palestinian medical and security sources said
The Israeli army had no immediate comment on the reported strike, which Palestinian security sources said was carried out by an Israeli drone.

“The remains of two Palestinians were brought to Shifa hospital in Gaza City and two others were injured in the raid, which targeted a civilian car,” medical sources told AFP.

The strike came a day after Israeli warplanes carried out twin raids targeting what the military said was a Palestinian militant cell planning to launch rockets into Israel.

The strikes killed one Palestinian militant and wounded two others in an area east of the Zeitun neighborhood.

In May this year, the speaker of Israel’s parliament and two ministers attended the dedication of a previous batch of Jewish settler homes at Ras al-Amud, on the slopes of the Mount of Olives, overlooking the flashpoint al-Aqsa mosque compound and close to the centre of east Jerusalem.

The international community has repeatedly called on Israel to stop new building projects in east Jerusalem, which it captured from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War and annexed shortly afterwards.

Today is the 70th Anniversary of Farhud

      June 1, 2011 in Israel

Did you ever hear of Farhud?  Most likely not if you are a non-Jew American.

Farhud الفرهود‎ refers to the pogram or “violent dispossession” carried out against the Jewish  population of Baghdad, Iraq,  on June 1-2, 1941 during the Jewish holiday of Shavuot.  The riots occurred in a power vacuum  following the collapse of the pro-Nazi government of Rashid Ali while the city was in a state of instability.

Before British and Transjordanian  forces arrived, around 800 Jews had been killed and 1,000 injured. Looting of Jewish property took place and 900 Jewish homes were destroyed. By 1951, 110,000 Jews – 80% of Iraqi Jewry – had emigrated from the country, most to Israel.  The Farhud has been called the “forgotten pogrom of the Holocaust”  and “the beginning of the end of the Jewish community of Iraq”, a community that had existed for 2,600 years

Maybe if the West didn’t arm Bahrain and other bullies in the Middle East

March 22, 2011 in Israel, World Unrest

        War is Business reports that

In a visit to Bahrain Saturday, [US Defense Secretary Robert] Gates told Bahrain’s King Hamad bin Isa al-Khalifa and Crown Prince Sheik Salman bin Hamad al-Khalifa that they needed to speed up reforms and make meaningful concessions to the opposition …

The opposition, which has staged street protests for a month, is demanding an end to long-time discrimination against Bahrain’s Shiite citizens, who make up 70 percent of the population, as well as democratic reforms. …

“Saudi Arabia is acting in self-interest [by occupying Bahrain] because what happens in Bahrain has direct implications for Saudi Arabia — it cannot simply avoid intervention,” said Fares Braizat, an analyst at the Qatar-based Arab Center for Research and Policy Studies.

By sending in troops, the kingdom is sending “a very strong sign that it will not allow significant change to happen in Bahrain,” Braizat added.

As reported in this video, weaponry sold to Bahrain by the USA and by the French was used against peaceful protesters.  It was also reported that USA tear gas was used against the citizens.  In Egypt MADE IN USA tear gas was also used against the Egyptian people.

“Egyptian riot police are firing tear gas canisters bearing the label ‘Made in U.S.A.’ against street demonstrations in Cairo. … According to the canister labels, the tear gas is produced by Combined Systems International of Jamestown, Pennsylvania. … A company spokesperson did not return calls by ABC News seeking comment.”—ABC NEWS, Jan. 28, 2011

Window into Palestine also reports that Israel uses deadly tear gas that is made in the USA.  Please remember that this tear gas is also used against American citizens right here in the good ole USA

Rachel Corrie Documentary Sparks Uproar at Jewish Film Festival

The San Francisco Jewish Film Festival has come under siege after deciding to show a documentary about Rachel Corrie, a Washington state 23-year-old killed in 2003 while trying to prevent an Israeli military bulldozer from demolishing a Palestinian’s home.

Whether Corrie naively put herself in harm’s way in support of terrorists or was intentionally killed by the Israeli military is the nexus of the controversy.

Compounding the issue, festival organizers invited Corrie’s mother, Cindy, to speak after today’s showing at the Castro Theatre of the film “Rachel.” It is one of 71 films at this year’s festival, which includes two films profiling kidnapped Israeli soldiers.

The reaction has been outrage. The festival board’s president stepped down from her role, opening-night ceremonies were boycotted by some, and Israel Consul General Akiva Tor said it was a “big mistake to invite Mrs. Corrie.”

I don’t get what the protest is all about.  Is it because someone dared to show an Israeli military bulldozer murdering a 23 year old?

Why?  What could the reason possibly be for not showing that? Because it might make a murderer look bad?

Israeli warships cross Suez Canal again

July 14, 2009 in Israel, Middle East

July 14, 2009  “Two Israel Navy warships made a rare crossing of Egypt’s Suez Canal on Tuesday, heading from the Mediterranean to the Red Sea in a voyage that could be seen as a warning signal to Iran.

Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Aboul Gheit said that the crossings were legitimate in accordance with an agreement between Cairo and Jerusalem.

One of the ships, the Hanit, had reportedly already crossed the canal both ways in June, in what a port source called the first case of a large Israeli warship using the strategic waterway. However, this was not possible to confirm officially.

The other ship to cross on Tuesday, the Eilat, was named after a destroyer sunk by Egypt with the loss of 47 lives shortly after the 1967 Six Day War, the source told AFP.

Israeli defense officials said that two missile boats did cross the canal, but they spoke on condition of anonymity due to the sensitive nature of the matter. . . ”

Hillary Rebukes Israel for their planned demolition of more than 80 Palestinian homes

              From March 5 Financial Times:

US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton criticised Israel’s plans to demolish more than 80 Palestinian homes in East Jerusalem as “unhelpful” and a violation of its international obligations.

In the first public rebuke of a specific Israeli policy since the new US administration took office, Mrs Clinton indicated the plan contravened the provisions in the five-year-old internationally agreed “road-map” that calls for a halt to all settlement activity.

Mrs Clinton said after meeting the Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbbas: “Clearly this kind of activity is unhelpful and not in keeping with the obligations entered into under the ‘road-map’… It is an issue that we intend to raise with the government of Israel and the government at the municipal level in Jerusalem.” MORE

Obama’s recent visit to Caterpillar was an insult to Human Rights Activists

                Queen’s Comments:

I agree with Stephen Zunes who wrote an article that recently appeared in AlterNet titled:  “Obama’s Catepillar Visit a Thumb in the Eye for Human Rights Activitsts.

I hope that Obama learned a lesson regarding who his friends are.  Obama said that the CEO of Caterpillar would rehire recently laid off workers, but then the CEO turned around and threw Obama under the Catepillar.  Source

[Someone should start a lessons learned folder for Obama.  This experience would come under the heading:  “Most Republicans fear and loathe you, Barack.”

                *****************************************************

Background on Catepillar Company: the Caterpillar company, for years has violated international law, U.S. law and its own code of conduct by selling its D9 and D10 bulldozers to Israel.

Caterpillar machines have been used to level Palestinian homes, uproot olive orchards, build the illegal separation wall and, in some cases, kill innocent civilians, including a 23-year old American peace activist.

                ******************************************************

In regard to Caterpillar, Obama would be well-advised to remember a little international law:

Article 53 of the Fourth Geneva Convention, to which the United States is a signatory and is therefore legally bound to uphold, states that “Any destruction by the Occupying Power of real or personal property belonging individually or collectively to private persons or to the State, or to other public authorities, or to social or cooperative organizations, is prohibited, except where such destruction is rendered absolutely necessary by military operations.”

Colombia has learned its lesson of war and profitability well from the USA

February 7, 2009 in Afghan War, Colombia, Foreign Affairs, Israel

                  QUEEN’S COMMENTS

Another brilliant piece written by Sebastian Castaneda appeared in Colombia Reports this morning.  It is titled, Colombia Needs more than War Policies.  I was surprised, although I don’t know why, since Colombia is such a clone of the USA, to learn that they manufacture munitions for Israel. Following is an excerpt:

                  ********************************************************

“. . . The recent announcement of a USD 4 billion spending on military equipment for the Colombian army illustrates the government’s war policies. The profitable Colombian military industry obtained, in 2006, the exclusive rights to manufacture the current generation of Israeli Galil assault rifles, producing 45,000 annually. Currently, the government is negotiating with Israel to manufacture the next generation of rifles. Moreover, just after the latest hostage release the government has insisted on military rescue for the remaining hostages, when is well-known the FARC would kill all hostages in case of rescue attempts. This was the case with a former governor and later eleven regional legislators, the latter were killed when the FARC mistook an approaching guerrilla group for the army. . .”  MORE

Prosecutor looks at ways to put Israeli officers on trial for Gaza war crimes

                    February 2, 2009 in Israel

The International Criminal Court is exploring ways to prosecute Israeli commanders over alleged war crimes in Gaza.

The alleged crimes include the use of deadly white phosphorus in densely populated civilian areas, as revealed in an investigation by The Times last month. Israel initially denied using the controversial weapon, which causes horrific burns, but was forced later, in the face of mounting evidence, to admit to having deployed it.  MORE
