“Amarillo’s own fringe religious fanatic, David Grisham, has stepped forward to continue the craziness.   It seems there is no bit of religious bigotry too extreme for Grisham, who claims to be a preacher but actually earns his living as a security guard.   Grisham is the head of the small but vocal religious group called Repent Amarillo, who have recently received some undeserved headlines for their opposition to “promiscuity, homosexuality and non-christian worship practices through confrontation and prayer.”

Grisham told the Amarillo Globe News last Friday that he and a few friends would gather in an Amarillo park and burn a few Qurans.   He said he is doing it “to show support for the Rev. Terry Jones.”   He claimed to have waited until Friday to announce his intentions “to avoid national media attention.”   That’s a load of crap!   Grisham has never avoided any publicity in the past — and note that he contacted the media to inform them of his silly plans. .  .”

This fanatic is a security guard at Pantex.  [Pantex is a facility located near Amarillo Texas that disassembles nuclear warhead and stores the plutonium in a nearby pit.]  If you want to be further upset, read the excerpt below from my post back in February 2010:

An evangelical Christian hate group militia that calls itself “Repent Amarillo” harasses local citizens of Amarillo Texas who do not agree with Repent Amarillo members’ narrow restricted interpretation of God.The leader of Repent Amarillo, David Grisham is a security guard at Pantex, a nuclear bomb facility in Amarillo.  January 10, 2010,the plant had a complete shut down for 3 hours because of a security issue.  Turns out some duck hunters had wandered onto the property. [Makes you wonder about their security fences, doesn't it?  but of course we have to spend billions on a border fence so there probably isn't much money left.]

But in March of 2005 while disassembling a W-56 war head with a yield of 1,200 kilotons–about 100 times the power of the 15 kiloton bomb dropped on Hiroshima– there was a near-miss took place–a near miss that would have literally blown up most of our  nation and rendered it unfit for human habitation for generations (taking into account the amount of plutonium stored in pits at the Pantex facility along with the warhead itself and the resulting nuclear chain reactions).    The details of this incident were not released to the public until almost two years after the incident in December of 2006. I guess the Republicans got concerned that it would come to light since the Democrats had just taken over Congress or perhaps they were waiting until after the 2006 elections so they didn’t damage their chances.  Additionally, it does not escape my attention that this announcement was made over holiday break for Congress.  Way to go George and Dick.

The Project on Government Oversight watchdog group said the “near miss,” which led the Energy Department to fine the plant’s operator $110,000, was caused in part by technicians at the plant being required to work up to 72 hours per week.
