Thinking ahead to the 2012 Democratic National Convention
March 14, 2011 in Class War, Democratic Convention
If the Progressive Wing of the Democratic Party is as disappointed and angry over Obama’s lack of enthusiasm for supporting the majority who live on Main Street as I am, the 2012 Democratic National Convention promises to look like the Democratic National Convention of 1968 that was held in Chicago. [Remember that although the Wall Street Corporate Centrist control the Party machinery, the majority of Democrats are progressives, not corporate centrists. Had this not been the case, Hillary would have gotten the nomination.]

TRIP DOWN MEMORY LANE TO 1968 DEMOCRATIC NATIONAL CONVENTION
The country had reached the boiling point. Two American icons, Martin Luther King Jr. and John F. Kennedy’s brother, Bobby, had just been assassinated. Everyday, young American boys were being slaughtered in a war that, for many, had already lost its meaning. War protesters decided to gather in Chicago and send a message to candidate Hubert Humphrey and the Democratic party. But Chicago Mayor Richard Daley was unsympathetic. He posted 12,000 police officers on the streets, and called in the Illinois National Guard. Television cameras recorded a bloody riot as police arrested over 500 people in clashes that injured more than 100 police and 100 demonstrators.
To confront the spectacle of young Americans being beaten by angry police in the streets, Esquire Magazine dispatched a team of world-famous writers and reporters. French playwright Jean Genet, “Naked Lunch” author William Burroughs, American New Journalist Terry Southern and reporter John Sack engaged in the protest and the ensuing conflict to gain firsthand accounts. Their brash writing describes the chaos of the riots. [SOURCE; KERA "Going back to Chicago']
Meanwhile, in the convention hall, Connecticut Senator Abraham Ribicoff used his nominating speech for George McGovern to tell of the violence going on outside the convention hall, saying that “with George McGovern we wouldn’t have Gestapo tactics on the streets of Chicago.” Mayor Daley responded to his remark with something that the T.V. sound was not able to pick up, but was later revealed by lip-readers that Daley had cursed “Fuck you, you Jew son of a bitch! You lousy motherfucker! Go home!” [Interesting to note that President Obama's Chief of Staff is the son of this man. How far from the tree does the fruit fall? Somewhat ironic with all this history that a Jew is now Mayor of Chicago while a Jew has been replaced by a Daley in the White House. Perhaps that is tit for tat. ]
That night, NBC News switched back and forth between the demonstrators being beaten by the police to the festivities over Humphrey’s victory in the convention hall. It was under the cameras of the convention center, for all of America to see. It was clear that the Democratic party was sorely divided.
The amount of tear gas used to suppress the protesters was so great that it eventually made its way to the Hilton Hotel, where it disturbed Hubert Humphrey while in his shower.[

A LOOK TO THE FUTURE IN 2012
We have Goldman Sachs mouthpieces for the Obama Administration such as Tim Geithner and Bernanke, a left-over from George Bush, telling the American people that we can continue to expect high unemployment for several years–when at the same time we witness Wall Street’s total recovery in the first two years of Obama’s administration and people like the President himself increasing his own personal wealth 10 times in two years and members of the upper 1% club like David Koch adding $4.5 billion to their fortunes.
Just how angry do you think the American people will be after another 16 months of this wealth grabbing from the already obscenely wealthy? If you want a clue, you can look at the crowd of 100,000 who recently stood up for the workers of America in Madison–even though NO ONE FROM THE DEMOCRATIC WHITE HOUSE WAS SENT TO SUPPORT THE WORKERS–not Obama, not Joe Biden, not even the Secretary of labor.

NOW IS THE TIME FOR THE PEOPLE TO RISE UP AGAINST BOTH PARTIES [Actually one party, of the rich, by the rich and for the rich]
If you work for a living as opposed to living off investments, NEITHER party represents your best interests.
I wish the unions would step up to the plate and open up their union halls to the people and support us in creating a viable, real, main street grassroots party for the people.
