Speaking of fake grassroots–HOW ABOUT THOSE “FACES OF COAL”
We have groups like “Americans for Prosperity” bankrolled by greedy billionaire right-wingers like David Koch sliming out of the woodwork these days.
It’ not easy to even keep up with all their shameless shenanigans to defraud the REAL grassroots with their propaganda.
Last night Rachel Maddow called our attention to the latest “Faces of Coal”. Faces of Coal is a corporate funded PR campaign run out of a K Street public relations firm the Adfero Group.
But Adfero doesn’t specialize in spontaneous public advocacy. It specializes in crafting a “custom-tailored message” and then recruiting “key contacts” who can slam that message home. Here, from Adfero’s own website, is their own version:
“At the end of the day, it’s all about relationships. From policymakers to homemakers, people respond best when the message is delivered by someone they know and trust. - SOURCE: Daily KOS.

There is no “grass roots movement” to support the coal industry! FACES of COAL ARE REALLY STOCK PHOTOGRAPHS–NOT ORDINARY PEOPLE WHO ARE FOR MOUNTAIN TOP REMOVAL AND OTHER RECKLESS ACTIONS SPONSORED BY THE COAL INDUSTRY
Adfero is so LAME that their either don’t know better themselves, OR they think that the American people are so stupid that we won’t recognize stock photos that you can purchase off the Internet. Last night Rachel used 4 or 5 of the photos that Adfero has use to depict their lies about “faces of coal” as being taken straight from a photograph stock photo catalog.
FACES OF COAL does not exist–except in the creative imaginations of the people at Adfero. But for what it’s worth, here are two real faces of coal. One is a group of miners from the turn of the last century and the other is the devastation wrought by mining companies as they continue to blow the tops of mountains off.
These are the REAL faces of coal.

THE REAL FACES OF COAL
The first photograph was taken in 1911 and shows young boys in the Pennsylvania coal company coal mine. They were called “Breaker Boys”. There were used in the anthracite coals mines to separate slate rock from the coal after it had been brought out of the shaft. They often worked 14 to 16 hours a day.
“Thanks for the Memories” la la la because if Coal companies have their way, that is all that the people of Appalachia will have left after Coal Mining Companies
buy enough Blue Dog and Republican Senators to allow them to continue their wanton devastation of our mountains. If they are allowed to continue, we will have to eliminate that part about “purple mountain’s majesty. . .” from our song “America the Beautiful.”
