Addendum to countering the political Jabberwocky surrounding health care discussions
ADDENDUM TO COUNTERING THE POLITICAL JABBERWOCKY SURROUNDING HEALTH CARE DISCUSSIONS
“Beware the Jabberwock, my son!
The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!
Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun
The frumious Bandersnatch!”

In my previous post I overlooked on of the prize defenses for the staus quo of leaving privatized healthcare insurance corporations in charge of dispensing health care to those Americans who can afford to pay their outrageous premiums:
“BUT IF WE DO AWAY WITH THE PRIVATIZED HEALTH CARE INSTITUTIONS IT WOULD DAMAGE OUR ALREADY WEAKENED ECONOMY . . .”
Jabberwock, my sons and daughters and fellow Americans! Pure Jabberwock!
THE TRUTH IS THAT SINGLE PAYER WOULD BE AN ECONOMIC STIMULUS–A REAL ONE, NOT THE FAKE FLUTTERINGS WE SEE TODAY FROM GIVING MORE CORPORATE WELFARE TO WALL STREET.
According to a recent study (see CalNurses.org), establishing a national single-payer health care system would create 2.6 million new jobs, and infuse $317 billion in new business and public revenues, with another $100 billion in wages into the U.S. economy.
Single-payer systems produce a huge increase in jobs and wages because the biggest economic benefits come from the actual delivery of health care, not the purchase of insurance. Every direct health care dollar creates almost three additional dollars in the economy. Health care now:
• Generates 45 million jobs, directly and in other industries.
• Accounts for 10.5% of all U.S. jobs and 12.1% of all U.S. wages.
• Contributes about 25% of all federal tax revenues. Federal, state, and local taxes from the health care sector in 2006 added up to $824 billion.
