Honduras Right-Wing Double Standard: Micheletti tried to change constitution
Micheletti on left
“…In 1985, he tried to turn the Honduran National Congress into a National Constitutional Assembly in order to reform the same Magna Carta that the coup leaders are now defending as their transcendental symbol during the current political crisis.
Members of Congress and politicians accuse Manuel Zelaya of trying to extend his term and change the Honduran Constitution, but what he tried to do was hold a non-binding opinion poll. Micheletti, on the other hand, did want to [extend the president's term and change the Constitution] 24 years ago. . .”
QUEEN’S COMMENTS: I just read in the Narco News this morning that Micheletti, a King-pin of Honduran politics for 30 years and “coincidentally” the interim right-wing president of Honduras is guilty of what he accuses the rightfully elected leader of Honduras of doing–trying to change the constitution.
Micheletti has been descibed as a man who will tell you something black is actually white and never back down. Sounds like George Bush to me. While Micheletti has failed to win any international support for his government, he does have the backing of much of the Honduran business class.
” . . . If Micheletti has the ear of industry, he has lost the heart of much of the working class, who see him as out of touch and took to the streets to protest Zelaya’s ouster.
”This guy has been in power for 30 years and he’s never done anything to help the people,” said Jorge Luis Amador, 48. “Anyone who has ever had to ask him for something will tell you he’s arrogant.”
[Micheletti sounds like the typical entitled multimillionaire to me.]
